The Plug 2020 Report: A Future For The Rest Of Us

After much anticipation and following a year that turned the world upside-down, The Plug’s 2020 Report sponsored by Lightship Foundation is here.

Here are a few key points on what we learned:

  • We took it online: Spaces for virtual gathering flourished as in-person work waned. Several of 75 Black-led coworking spaces The Plug identified closed. Life online made way for platforms like Black-led Fanbase to gain traction.
  • The year of the essential worker: Black and Hispanic workers made up 44 and 45 percent of essential workers, increasing their risks of exposure to Covid-19 by 67 and 73 percent respectively.
  • The Black tech worker movement rose: Issues around worker rights, representation, and discrimination came to a head.
  • The international outlook is bright: 397 companies across Africa raised over $700 million.

Read through and reflect on a year that gave stark new meaning to the word unprecedented.
