Crypto & Business Reporter at The Plug

The Plug is looking for a crypto and business reporter to cover the business of cryptocurrency, blockchain, Web3 and new decentralized technologies with a particular emphasis on how these technologies currently impact entrepreneurs and communities of color, and how they may shape equity into the future. 

We are looking for someone who reports and writes quickly, accurately, and authoritatively and has a hunger for breaking big and unique stories. This reporter will deliver important scoops, build relationships with decentralized technology experts, entrepreneurs, creators and crypto investors. 

Requirements

3-5 years of newsroom reporting experience

Journalism, economics, and/or communications degree

The crypto and business reporter will work closely with the Managing Editor to refine coverage and story ideas as well as contribute to investigative projects, and data visualizations. In addition to coordinating your coverage into the larger editorial calendar the policy reporter is also expected to: 

  • Produce 1-2 stories per week 
  • Have a working knowledge of tech policy, law, and judicial beats
  • Cultivate and utilize existing sources relationships 
  • Coordinate with and plan editorial coverage proactively

You are a great communicator with writing, copy editing, and project management skills and can work under tight deadlines.

You’re a self-starter that always brings your A-game and a positive can-do attitude, to the workday, even when you’re working from home and working across time zones. People enjoy working with you and you elevate every (virtual) room you are in with helpful feedback, analysis, and new ideas.

You possess a curiosity about the world of business, technology, and policy and how these intersect and affect society at large. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are part of your core ethos, and you maintain an expansive knowledge of landmark tech legislation,  and how new technologies will shape governance and our society.

You know good journalism when you read it, and you care deeply about the technique of quality reporting and getting the story right.

Most of all, you are a news junkie, excited about working with a fast-growing, investor-backed journalism startup.

Other things we’d like you to have:

A bachelor’s degree in journalism or English.

A minimum of two years of editing experience within a newsroom.
